Credit Hour Equivalency for Non-Semester Hours
In accordance with the standards set by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and the US Dept. of Education, bachelor's degree programs have a minimum of 120 semester hours or, prior to UTM's conversion, 180 quarter hours. For UT Martin to achieve this conversion and that of non-semester hours, quarter hours are divided by a factor of 1.5 to reflect accurate semester hours of credit.
4 quarter hours = 2.67 semester credit hours
3 quarter hours = 2 semester credit hours
2 quarter hours = 1.33 semester credit hours
1 quarter hour= .67 semester credit hours
Prior to Fall Semester, 1988, UT Martin was on a quarter calendar system. Effective August 1988, UT Martin is on a semester calendar; credit is awarded in semester credit hours. Students who have taken quarter courses and enroll Summer 1999 and later will have their courses shown as a summary line in semester hours on the academic transcript. A separate transcript can be issued for the quarter hour courses.
